Debat over de openbaarheid van rechtspraak in het internettijdperk

eLaw@Leiden, Centrum voor Recht in de Informatiemaatschappij, nodigt u uit voor een debat over de vraag: moeten alle rechterlijke uitspraken on-line worden gepubliceerd? Ja, zeggen sommigen: de publieke controle van de rechterlijke macht vereist dat.
Nee, zeggen anderen: de kosten zijn te hoog en de meerwaarde gering of zelfs afwezig. Op deze middag komen de verschillende standpunten aan de orde in twee presentaties en een debat onder leiding van prof. mr. Hans Franken.

Deelname aan de bijeenkomst is kosteloos, maar het aantal plaatsen is beperkt; meldt u zich alstublieft aan vóór 6 oktober viaelaw@law.leidenuniv.nl, o.v.v. uw naam en functie.

Semantic Web meeting on Linking Open Dutch Data

On Friday, February 12th, the VU University Amsterdam will organise a Dutch Semantic Web Meetup on the topic of Linking Open Dutch Data. With the recent launch of e.g. the UK’s http://data.gov.uk portal, this application area of Semantic Web technology currently has a lot of momentum.

Na eerdere succesvolle FLITS-bijeenkomsten (http://lodder.cli.vu/flits/) over onder andere het Medisch dossier, Stemcomputers en Aansprakelijkheid van forumbeheerders, zal nu worden ingegaan op hoe het schijnbaar onmogelijke wordt gerealiseerd, nl. het efficiënt (en naar tevredenheid van de deelnemers) oplossen van 16 miljoen eBay/Paypal conflicten per jaar.

Colin Rule (eBay/Paypal, Stanford, UMass) is sinds 2003 bij eBay/Paypal als directeur verantwoordelijk voor het online oplossen van 16 miljoen conflicten per jaar. Hoe doe je dat? Met welke nationale regels moet je rekening houden? Zijn de uitkomsten juridisch toelaatbaar?

Colin Rule is teven betrokken bij het zogenaamde Community Court, waarbij vrijwilligers via stemming de uitkomst van een conflict tussen handelaren bepalen. Deze vorm van geschillenoplossing is toegepast bij eBay.com en eBay India. Welke haken en ogen zitten aan dergelijke democratische conflictbeslechting?

Na een inleiding verzorgd door Colin Rule volgt een debat met de zaal over bovenstaande en andere vragen.
